One Full Time Position in Environmental Conservation Education
Assistant/Associate Professor, Tenure Track
Beginning September 1, 2013
The Department of Teaching and Learning seeks a candidate for a tenure track position at either the Assistant or the Associate Professor level for the Environmental Conservation Education graduate program.? The NYU Environmental Conservation Education Program approaches environmental education from an interdisciplinary perspective, focusing particularly within urban environments.? Grounded in the social sciences, the program examines contemporary issues in the environment and the role of education in preparing students for environmental education careers in a variety of formal and non-formal settings.

Responsibilities: The ideal candidate will engage in externally-funded research, teaching, and other scholarly activities in environmental education in school and non-school settings.? Broadly defined, such topics might include environmental literacy, sustainability, environmental justice, conservation education, experiential learning, as well as others related to curriculum development, and program evaluation. ?The candidate will be responsible for:? 1) Teaching graduate level courses in the Environmental Conservation Education Program; 2) Advising graduate students; 3) Conducting research and pursuing externally funded research in environmental education; 4) Contributing to the further development of the interdisciplinary aspects of the Environmental Conservation Education program; and 5) Providing leadership to professional organizations and learned societies in the area of environmental education.? The candidate will also have opportunities to collaborate on funded projects currently underway within NYU?s Wallerstein Collaborative for Urban Environmental Education (www.nyu.edu/wallerstein) and may also be offered opportunities to develop undergraduate courses.

Qualifications: Earned doctorate in environmental studies or related field, teaching experience, and a record of research.? We will consider candidates with a range of research interests within the social sciences which may include: environmental studies, environmental education, sustainability, conservation education, environmental literacy, environmental justice or teaching and learning in non-formal settings.? The candidate will be expected to be an active scholar and an accomplished teacher and engage in the intellectual life of the program and the department.? The candidate must provide evidence of, or clear potential for developing a high-quality research program in the area of environmental studies; commitment to excellence in teaching, and a record of teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate level; experience with grant writing and funded projects, and a desire to work with faculty and students from diverse backgrounds and with diverse interests.
