Favre attorneys take aim at racy claims

NEW YORK (AP) - Brett Favre shouldn't have to respond to some embarrassing claims about his personal life that two massage therapists are making in a lawsuit, his lawyers say.

The massage therapists say the New York Jets blacklisted them after they objected to suggestive messages the legendary quarterback allegedly sent to another woman. Among other things, they asked him to admit or deny he solicited women for sex trysts and sent explicit photos to a former Jets game hostess. The request was part of a procedural step in their 2011 lawsuit.

Favre's attorneys filed papers this week asking a court to say he doesn't have to answer. They say some of the requests are irrelevant and inappropriate, including a bid to get him to acknowledge that a lewd photo that appeared on a sports gossip website depicts his own anatomy.

"These requests clearly have absolutely nothing to do with this lawsuit and have been included only to harass and embarrass," attorney Sharon H. Stern and other Favre lawyers wrote.

The rest of the requests are "nonsensical" or too much in debate to ask him simply to admit them, his lawyers said.

The Jets and another defendant, a massage therapist who helped others get work with the team, filed similar objections this week.

The massage therapists' lawyer called the filings an effort to shield Favre from having to discuss his conduct.

"It's yet another attempt by the defendants, particularly Brett Favre, to avoid having to testify under oath in this matter," attorney Elizabeth Eilender said.

The Jets' lawyer declined to comment. Lawyers for Favre and the other defendant didn't immediately respond to phone and email messages Wednesday evening.

Massage therapists Shannon O'Toole and Christina Scavo say they were called to give massages at the Jets training camp and to various players individually, until they ran afoul of Favre.

During the 2008 preseason, the lawsuit alleges, the now-retired three-time NFL MVP sent another woman a text message asking to get together with her and Scavo, followed by another text saying, "I guess I have bad intentions."

After Scavo's husband asked Favre to apologize, she and O'Toole lost gigs with the Jets, the suit says. They are seeking unspecified damages.

The suit was filed five days after the NFL fined Favre $50,000 for not being forthright in an investigation into allegations that he sent bawdy text messages and photos to former Jets game hostess Jenn Sterger when they both worked for the team. During that investigation, media reports claimed Favre also had pursued massage therapists, but the NFL said it was unable to get enough information to decide whether the reports were substantiated.

The Jets have said O'Toole and Scavo worked for the team for a combined total of only five days over two years, making $2,300 in all, and were never guaranteed any ongoing work. The team wasn't told about the women's concerns and simply turned to other massage therapists after its training facility moved in 2008, Jets officials and lawyers said in court filings.

In court papers, Favre has denied the allegations and argued that if Scavo and O'Toole lost work, he wasn't responsible for it.

Favre retired from the NFL in 2010, after playing for 20 seasons, mostly with the Green Bay Packers. He is the league's all-time leader with 71,838 passing yards and 508 touchdowns, won a Super Bowl with the Packers in 1996, and holds the 297-game record for consecutive starts.

He is now helping coach the football team at Oak Grove High School in Hattiesburg, Miss., near his home.

Kindle Books Publishing System by Ryan Deiss ? Free Bonuses ...

Los Angeles, California (PRWEB) August 27, 2012

Kindle books publishing is one of the hottest trends, thanks in part to the creation of the new Number One Book System created by Ryan Deiss. The team at Marketers Black Book have reviewed the new system and have decided to offer thousands of dollars in free bonuses to authors that purchase the Number One Book System exclusively through the Marketers Black Book website. For a limited time, over $ 4200 in Internet marketing bonus materials are being offered to help authors that publish a Kindle book online to promote it just like some of the most successful Internet entrepreneurs do with a new release. The free bonuses can be found at this page http://marketersblackbook.com/reviews/here-is-the-best-number-one-book-system-review-bonuses-that-cant-be-found-anywhere-else.

The Kindle book platform was created by Amazon to be an alternative to rights issues that were common with unprotected e-books. Companies like Adobe that pioneered the creation of the PDF book format publicized the need to protect authors and publishers from illegal downloads and sharing of PDF books. The Kindle platform includes specially designed AZW files that are encoded by Amazon to eliminate piracy and illegal sharing. This has helped to make the Kindle platform the go-to book publishing system currently available online.

Recent reports by Amazon have revealed that this retailer is now selling over three times the amount of Kindle books compared with hardback and soft cover print books. The news of this data is causing some well known authors to demand higher e-book sales royalties from traditional print publishers and third party licensors. Authors that have not yet pursued self-publishing can learn every part of the process from the Ryan Deiss Number One Book System that is now available. This system provides the roadmap that any person can use to write, publish and market an e-book that can make the best seller list online within a one-month period of time.

The Marketers Black Book team of experts is comprised of business, copywriting and social media expert that frequently review training programs that help Internet marketers and business owners to increase e-commerce sales online. The new free bonuses that are available go hand in hand with the Ryan Deiss Number One Book System. A video explaining the freebies is available at this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OpF6hwtupMg.

The complete Kindle Publishing System as well as the free bonuses are two of the most talked about combinations in the Internet marketing community for the month of August 2012.

The $ 15 million dollar traffic system, two free tickets to an upcoming seminar and personal one-on-one business consulting are just three of the bonuses that the Marketers Black Book team now has available with every sale of the Number One Book System by Ryan Deiss from its website. Those interested in purchasing the system or learning more about the offers can visit the Marketers Black Book website.

Don't Hold Back When Consulting With Your Attorney | Augulis Law ...

Aug 29, 2012 ?/? By: Alan Augulis, Estate Planning Attorney ?/? Category: Estate Planning

Anytime you are consulting with an attorney for any reason you must be completely forthcoming if you want to be represented well. Your lawyer is not going to be able to take the appropriate actions to assist you if he or she has not been fully apprised of all the details that are relevant to the case.

Because of the attorney-client privilege there is no reason to feel in any way concerned about anything that you say being passed along inappropriately. This even includes incriminating information.

When it comes to estate planning, the types of things that you must share with your attorney are not going to be quite as sensitive as the conversations that take place between criminal attorneys and their clients. However, people do sometimes hold back important details and this can result in some negative long-term consequences.

The things we are referring to would include serious long-term extramarital relationships, descendents that the entire family may not know about, contracts previously entered into such as marital agreements, and large gifts that you may have given throughout your life.

If you are forthcoming when you discuss things with your attorney you should walk out of the office with an ironclad estate plan and no complications are likely to arise after your passing.

Should you be without an estate plan at the present time action is required. The first step is to pick up the phone to arrange for an informative consultation with a licensed and experienced Central New Jersey estate planning lawyer.

OMEGA MAN | New You Magazine | Anti-Aging Medicine, Cosmetic ...

Somewhere in the unbelievably clean waters along the coast of New Zealand grows a very happy mussel. Well, we can only assume that it?s happy?at the very least, it?s thriving.
Attached to thick ropes that descend 40 feet into the water, this shellfish?its common name is the green-lipped mussel?feeds on deep-sea plankton that roil up from the seas surrounding Antarctica. It grows large for a mussel, some 4 or 5 inches long, and it gets its name from a distinct green band that forms around the edge of its shell.

What makes it really special, however, is what?s inside: Ounce for ounce, an astonishing amount of concentrated Omega-3 fatty acids.

?It?s a super oil,? says Ken Meares, the CEO of Great HealthWorks, the company which farms, processes and packages the mussel?s oil as a tiny capsule called OmegaXL. ?When it comes to omega fatty acids, we?re the rocket fuel. We?re at the top.?

And that is a great place to be when it comes to a class of supplements that is considered by doctors to be the most important one you can take.

This Mussel Packs A Punch
For centuries, Maori Indians living on the coast of New Zealand have treated the green-lipped mussel with reverence, including a daily ritual of consuming one of them raw. Outside of anthropological curiosity, what makes this significant is that coastal Maori rarely suffer any illness caused by inflammation?things like arthritis or heart disease.

The reason is something which has now been tracked in dozens of scientific studies over a 30-year period: The green-lipped mussel the Maori eat?aka perna canaliculus?is chock full of Omega-3 fatty acids, which are anti-inflammatory agents. These are the same fatty acids found in fish oil, which has been recommended by physicians for decades, but in much higher concentration.

Studies have shown that daily consumption of Omega-3 fatty acids is a powerful preventative for everything inflammatory. This is vital, because while inflammation is the body?s initial healthy response to damage or infection (wounds would not heal without it), chronic inflammation is deadly. It leads to a host of illnesses that include heart disease, cancer, osteoporosis, Alzheimer?s, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, periodontitis, atherosclerosis?the list goes on and on. Many of the conditions associated with aging, including joint pain and aging of the skin, are also linked to chronic inflammation.

The good news is that taking Omega-3 fatty acids can control the inflammatory response. The classic Framingham Study that taking Omega-3 fatty acids can control the inflammatory response. The classic Framingham Study (of thousands of town residents over decades) showed that those who regularly took fish oil cut their chances of developing Alzheimer?s in half. A study completed in 2010 at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle showed that fish oil reduced the risk of breast cancer by a third. Further studies show that fish oil reduces heart disease, while studies that show the impact of fish oil on arthritis are legion.

What blew Ken Meares away, and why he wanted to create a product from the oil of the New Zealand green-lipped mussel, was that the oil it contained?officially, the PCSO-524 lipid complex?was incredibly more potent than ordinary fish oil. Research on the oil had demonstrated that the two most important Omega-3 fatty acids, known as DHA and EPA, were found in the mussel?s oil to be 20 and 17 times more potent, respectively, than what was found in typical fish oil.

The Man Behind The Mussel
While the ?XL? in OmegaXL does not does stand for Extra Large, it may as well if it refers to their CEO.

Ken Meares is one of those people who are larger than life. At the age of 68 he is unbelievably fit, physically and mentally. A former professional weight lifter, he maintains a daily workout regimen that would fell the ordinary mortal; his arms are thick and rock solid. He is also sharp as a steel blade. He is relentlessly upbeat, and prides himself on how many of his 250 on-premise employees he can remember by name. If he gives you a tour of company headquarters he will great dozens of them with a ?Good morning, Jacquelyn (or Karen, or Robert, etc,) how are you? You look fantastic today, as always.?

Meares discovered the green-lipped mussel and its omega fatty acids ten years ago, when he was 58. ?I felt a little like Colonel Sanders discovering his fried chicken formula at 62,? he says. ?It?s never too late when you are passionate about something.?

At the time, Meares already had a successful career in the health and fitness business. He had built the first Gold?s Gyms, put together chains of health clubs, and prior to founding Great HealthWorks ran a national supplement company that manufactured and sold a topical analgesic for athletes that relieved joint pain and other sports related injuries.

He was looking for his next big project.

?One thing I know is that people don?t want to live with pain,? he says. ?I discovered through pain management that inflammation is the cause of a lot of pain in the body. And then I heard about this company in New Zealand that had some product that was supposed to do wonders with inflammation.?

Meares got a bunch of samples, and gave it to friends and family to try it.?Meares got a bunch of samples, and gave it to friends and family to try it. ?They found it fantastic?enormously effective in relieving their pain,? he says. Armed with that knowledge, Meares founded Great HealthWorks and went on to create Omega XL, which is now a global brand.

Celebrity Hype
?Fish oil comes in three different forms,? says Derrick DeSilva, MD, a member of the teaching staff at the JFK Medical Center in Edison, NJ, and a practicing physician of Internal and Integrative Medicine. ?There is an ethyl ester form, and a triglyceride form and a free fatty acid form. The scientific data shows that the free fatty acid form is the most bio-available for the human body. The absorption rate is much greater.?

As you might have guessed, the green-lipped mussel?s Omega-3 fatty acids are of the free fatty acid form; the other types are the ones found in regular fish oil. ?It?s the absorbability that gives it the extra strength,? says Dr. DeSilva, who also acts as a medical advisor to Great HealthWorks.

If you are looking for testimony to its potency, you need go no further than the celebrities who swear by the product. All discovered Omega XL through friends, and all became devotees after using the product. Among them are pop icon Taylor Dayne (Far Right), Dancing with the Stars? Tony Dovolani, Friends? Courtney Cox, national radio talk show host Delilah, television anchor and trial attorney Rikki Klieman (Above),? NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw, and legendary supermodel Beverly Johnson.

?For me it was breathing, for Beverly it was her body,? says songstress Taylor Dayne (Tell it to My Heart, Love Will Lead You Back), who for years suffered chronic inflammation in her chest. ?I could go asthmatic and it was constantly difficult to sing.?

Dayne, no stranger to personal health care, was already committed to a diet that included everything from seaweed to green tea to wheat germ oil. For her breathing problems she went as far as seeing Chinese herbalists, let alone Western doctors. ?I was constantly going on antibiotics, so that it wouldn?t turn into something bronchial. I haven?t had to do that in so long, since.http://www.newyoumag.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=10818&action=edit

SIP Trunk - Sip Trunk -- Effective Communication Platform without ...

Since the inception of telephone systems businesses have been paying extensive amounts to traditional telecommunications company at times reaching to tens of thousands of dollars burning any company's budget to the extent that some business became hesitant to pick up the phone and make phone calls. However the solution is not minimizing your calls, but rather changing the platform your system is in.

A recent report revealed that that traditional telecommunication's company have been charging their customers obscene amounts that are not necessary and in some cases reaching 300 percent to 1000 percent of what the rates should be. According to Australian Communications Minister Stephen Conroy and his New Zealand counterpart Amy Adams, every time you pick up the phone and place a call or log on to the internet using your mobile, Telecommunications Company are over pricing their services without the consumers even noticing it. Both minister proposed to legislate a regulation mechanism, set an industry standard and set a price cap for both retail and wholesale.

The report clearly showed how over priced current rates these companies are implementing, although the proposal is a good start businesses still have to wait for the legislation of whatever regulation is need. But luckily a new and innovative form of communication platform is steadily rising and is projected to hit a 770 percent global growth rate within the next three years mainly because of its ability to cut phone b half without requiring a fortune to deploy.

A SIP trunk or SIP trunking is another service offered by VoIP service providers, the idea of the technology is to use the internet as the main platform of transmission thus reducing dial rates significantly and eliminating the need for primary rate interface or PRIs. The latter is contributes greatly to skyrocketing bills along with other miscellaneous charges such as line rentals.

Although a Sip trunk based phone system still have line rentals, rates are significantly lower and you only need to pay for the actual lines that you use, unlike in traditional phone systems that will require you to have a line for each extension you, meaning you are paying monthly for something that is just sitting around and of no use.

Apart from voice calls, a SIP trunk is also capable of handling other forms of communication stream, like data and other multimedia. It unifies all your communication need into one central place, further reducing your overhead cost.

Lisa Harper is a SIP Trunking Engineer that that aims to help small to medium size businesses to take part in bigger markets and ultimately be an industry leader through effective communication stream.

Christie Christie Speech At Republican National Convention: New Jersey Governor's Blunt Style Tested On Delegates

TAMPA, Fla. ? With a rowdy fist-pump, blunt and brash New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie lit a fire under the Republican National Convention, labeling Democratic President Barack Obama part of the complacent status quo.

"It's been easy for our leaders to say not us, and not now, in taking on the tough issues. And we've stood silently by and let them get away with it," the first-term Republican governor said with a rock star's rasp during the keynote address Tuesday night. "But tonight, I say enough."

His mission was to make the case against Obama and fire up a convention delayed in its start by a tropical storm.

Like a coach before a football game, Christie implored the thousands inside the Tampa Bay Times Forum to rally behind GOP nominee Mitt Romney and his running mate, Paul Ryan.

"Everybody stand up. There's no time left to waste," the outspoken former prosecutor shouted.

"What will our children and grandchildren say of us? Will they say we buried our heads in the sand, we assuaged ourselves with the creature comforts we've acquired, that our problems were too big and we were too small, that someone else should make a difference because we can't?" he told his fellow Republicans. "Or will they say we stood up and made the tough choices needed to preserve our way of life?

Judging by the thundering cheers inside the arena, Christie hit his mark. That outspoken style made him a Republican Party star and helped earn him the plum, prime-time speaking gig.

He rocketed up the GOP ranks in 2009, winning the Democratic-heavy Eastern state the year after Obama was elected and establishing a reputation as confrontational to big labor and public employees. Early in the GOP nominating campaign, Republicans uninspired by Romney aggressively urged Christie to seek the nomination.

New York delegate David Shimkin said he admired Christie's frankness. "He doesn't seem to have a filter. A lot of candidates don't do that," Shimkin said.

As keynote speaker, Christie was tasked with making the prime-time pitch for Romney, who remains something of a mystery to voters even though polls show him locked in a close contest with Obama.

Christie considered running for the nomination himself but months ago decided to endorse Romney, who made a personal entreaty for Christie's support as the GOP primaries were getting under way.

Christie on Tuesday waved off a published report that he had turned down an offer to be Romney's running mate because he didn't think Romney could win in November.

"Not only do I believe he can win, I think he will win," Christie told "CBS This Morning."

Temperamentally and stylistically the opposite of the buttoned-up Romney, Christie acknowledged in interviews that the former Massachusetts governor has work to do to close the sale with some voters, especially women.

"Mitt Romney's going to have to win this campaign. He's going to have to let the American people see who he is," Christie said on ABC's "Good Morning America," adding that Romney's choice Ryan as his running mate had brought more energy to the ticket.

After he toppled Democratic Gov. Jon Corzine in 2009, national Republicans embraced Christie for his tough talk on fiscal matters and for taking on public employee unions, especially teachers. Web videos of Christie berating teachers at town hall meetings quickly went viral, giving Christie a large national audience. Critics dubbed him "Gov. YouTube," suggesting he was more interested in getting publicity for himself than for improving New Jersey's finances.

Democrats warned that viewers shouldn't buy Christie's claim of a "Jersey comeback." They pointed to economic data showing the state still grappling with weak employment and high property taxes.

"Chris Christie is taking the stage in Tampa tonight to talk about his favorite topic: himself," state Assemblyman John Wisniewski told reporters during a conference call before the speech. "Gov. Christie's record in New Jersey is certainly not a model for our nation, and the people in Tampa should know that."

Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley, chairman of the Democratic Governors Association and a likely 2016 presidential contender, went further, saying he expected Christie to deliver an "angry, Don Rickles keynote extolling the virtues of their candidate, Mitt Romney, who had one of the worst job creation rates in the nation."

How Ann Romney learned to stop worrying and love politics

Ann and Mitt Romney in a visit to Poland, Warsaw in July. (Carsten Koall/Getty Images)

TAMPA--When the three major news networks announced last week that they would not air Ann Romney's Republican National Convention Monday night speech in Tampa, Republicans started scrambling. Romney's likeable wife of 43 years needed a primetime spot, they decided, and party leaders were reportedly ready to bump the popular Florida Sen. Marco Rubio to make that happen. Eventually, they moved New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez's appearance to another night so that Ann could steal the spotlight on Tuesday. Meanwhile, party officials denied they had ever considered dumping Rubio.

This last minute jockeying is a testament to just how vital the campaign considers Ann to her husband's election efforts, something that wasn't always the case over the course of Romney's political career. Back in 1994, during Romney's failed U.S. Senate bid (and first run for office), the new political spouse on the block was a gaffe-prone potential liability without the polish or PR skills to handle the press. But over the years, Ann has learned how to spin family tales into political catnip--wooing voters by offering a dimension to her husband that no one else has seen before?and becoming a smooth and competent politician in her own right.

The 63-year-old mother of five and grandmother to 16 has emerged as an important humanizing force for Romney on the campaign trail. While the presumptive Republican nominee can come across as stiff and awkward on the stump, Ann charms the crowd with personal stories, casting her husband in a softer light. At a rally in Michigan on Friday she choked up while expressing gratitude that so many supporters in her home state had shown up. "Mitt and I grew up here, we fell in love here, and this is a special place for us," she said.

Despite her ongoing struggle with multiple sclerosis, which she was diagnosed with in 1998, Ann has attended hundreds of campaign events and often comes across as having more energy on the stump than her husband. She was at her husband's side at virtually every rally during the long primary?working the rope line alongside her spouse and often delivering a mini stump speech of her own.

In one instance, she tells the story of being a stay-at-home mom in charge of five "very naughty" sons when her husband, then a consultant with Bain Capital, was traveling. "He would call home, and he'd hear a very exasperated wife at the end of the phone," Ann said during a rally in South Carolina in January. "And he'd remind me to hang in there. It would be okay, that actually my job was more important than his job. And the cool thing was he meant it."

"You couldn't pay me to do this again"

Ann now seems so skilled and smooth in interviews it's hard to believe that she is actually something of a comeback kid, politically speaking.

During her husband's unsuccessful bid for a Massachusetts Senate seat, the Boston Globe blasted her in a scorched-earth profile that portrayed her as a chatty, over-privileged woman living a life so perfect it bordered on creepy. The two lines from the interview that most haunted the campaign: Ann's insistence that she and her Ken-doll-looking husband had never once had a fight during their marriage; and her statement that the couple was "struggling" when Mitt was getting his graduate degrees at Harvard. The two were supporting themselves by selling off American Motors stock given to Mitt by his wealthy father?something that didn't exactly resonate with voters working two jobs to survive. ("Mitt was still in school and we had no income except the stock we were chipping away at. We were living on the edge, not entertaining. No, I did not work. Mitt thought it was important for me to stay home with the children, and I was delighted," she said at the time.)

In an article titled "Daughter of Privilege Knows Little of Real World," the Boston Herald ripped off the most unflattering of the Globe's quotes. The experience left Ann incredibly angry, she later admitted. When a reporter asked her after her husband's defeat whether she would ever help him launch another race, she retorted: "Never. You couldn't pay me to do this again."

Writer Ron Scott, a Mormon who wrote MITT ROMNEY: An Inside Look at the Man and His Politics and who lived in the same stake?sort of the Mormon version of a diocese?as the Romneys, said he remembers "gasping" when he first read the Globe profile, instantly recognizing it as a disaster. But now, Scott thinks the incident just shows how fully Romney trusted his wife?for good or for bad. Despite her political inexperience, her husband was willing to let Ann do an hour-long one-on-one interview without media training or a PR team to hold her hand. And Ann was happy to take that risk, confident she could come out on top.

Perhaps that assurance was misplaced at the time, but it seems fitting now.

"She looks...like she's enjoying the campaign," Scott said. "I think if you were to contrast between now and '94, I don't think she really enjoyed that campaign or the 2008 one, but this time around I think she really looks like she's come alive."

The happy homemaker

Romney often introduces Ann as his "sweetheart" on the trail. The two began dating when she was 16 and he 18 in the ritzy Detroit suburb of Bloomfield Hills. Ann's father, an immigrant from Wales, had made his fortune and served as the town's mayor. Romney, the son of Michigan Gov. George Romney, "hotly pursued" her, she said later. After a year at Stanford and two years of a Mormon mission in France, Romney rushed home and proposed to Ann, who had converted to Mormonism under Gov. Romney's tutelage and was attending Brigham Young University in Utah.

Ann eventually finished her undergraduate degree in French in 1975, when she already had two children. She recalled in an interview with People magazine that she shocked a professor at Harvard's extension school--where she took some classes at night while Mitt attended grad school--for needing to nurse one of her children in the back of the lecture hall. "It's one of those things where the professor is like, 'Wait, wait, wait, this is liberal Harvard, but what am I going to do about that woman in the back with a baby that's nursing?' He just kept pretending like I wasn't there," she recalled. Though she saw the Beatles perform live in Detroit and was a child of the 60s, Ann was a bit of rebel in reverse for wanting to settle down and have children instead of pursuing a career. She's said she felt judged sometimes by peers, but never regretted her decision.

During the campaign in April, she used a Democratic strategist's attack on her for never "working a day in her life" to portray Democrats as judgmental and dismissive of mothers, a powerful counterattack to the Democratic argument that Republicans were waging a "war on women." The comments sent Democrats into a tailspin, with no less than President Barack Obama himself going on TV to say, "There's no tougher job than being a mom" within a day of the comments. Ann later called the attack "an early birthday gift" in comments that were captured by a hot mic, inadvertently showing off her tough-as-nails political instincts.

Team Romney

When speaking about Romney's bid, Ann frequently uses the "we" or the "Mitt and I" construction, emphasizing just how invested in the campaign she actually is. She's not just selling Mitt on the stump--she's selling them both as a team.

"Mitt and I are in an unusual position right now to make a difference to the future of this nation," she told a rally in West Charleston, S.C., in January.

Then, two weeks ago, she said to NBC: "I don't think he could do it without me. I don't believe he could."

Her willingness to take on the mantle of surrogate is somewhat surprising for a woman who has often aired her misgivings about opening up her private life and whom the Boston Globe described as largely "invisible" in Massachusetts as first lady when her husband was governor. Even now, when traveling on her own, Ann rarely tells people she meets on planes her true identity; she prefers to say vaguely that she works in public relations.

Technically, she's not lying. During the primaries, when Romney had a tense relationship with his traveling press corps, Ann would venture back on the candidate's plane to chat with reporters?offering up a friendlier face to the pack of wolves press than her hunted husband.

After a disastrous event in South Carolina when Romney was photographed with one of the smallest crowds he's ever attracted on the trail, Ann wandered off the bus and stood with reporters awaiting a gaggle with the candidate.

"What kind of jeans are you wearing?" she jokingly shouted, as her husband took the mic?a reference to a brief media obsession over whether the candidate was sporting "skinny" jeans on the campaign trail. Her husband grinned.

On the campaign plane, Ann always shares a row with her husband. He reads his iPad, while she's been spotted flipping through issues of US Weekly. He has said her presence keeps him calm. "If I'm away from Ann for longer than a week or so, I get off course," Romney told CNN's Piers Morgan. "She has to bring me back and moderate me down a bit."

But Ann's sunny disposition has faltered as negative attacks on her family's wealth and character intensified over the summer. While she's continued to be one of her husband's strongest assets on the stage, Ann has largely ceased her plane-side chats with reporters trailing her husband across the country.

Advisers who declined to be named discussing the candidate's wife said Ann was deeply wounded by the British tabloid attacks in July over her husband's comments suggesting he found London's Olympic preparations "disconcerting." (The Sun tabloid called him "Mitt the Twit" in retaliation, and the gaffe threatened to overshadow Romney's foreign tour.)

More recently, her hackles have been up over demands that her husband release more years of his tax returns. Ann was noticeably agitated in an interview with NBC's Natalie Morales two weeks ago when asked about the financial disclosures.

"Have you seen how we are attacked? Have you seen what's happened?" she said, leaning forward in her chair. "We have been very transparent to what's legally required of us. But the more we release, the more we get attacked, the more we get questioned, the more we get pushed. And so we have done what's legally required, and there's going to be no more tax releases given."

Besides fighting back in interviews, Ann has grown more aggressive on the stump as well. The announcement of Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisc) as Romney's running mate has breathed new life into the campaign, drawing larger crowds to Romney's events. Joining her husband and Ryan on stage at a rally in Mooresville, N.C., earlier this month, she marveled at the size of the crowd that had turned out, which was estimated to be at least 4,000 people.

"They know America is in trouble and these are the guys who are going to save it," she said. "It's a boost that gives us determination to say we're not going to take it anymore! We're going to take the White House back!"

--Holly Bailey contributed to this report from the campaign trail.

Small family size increases wealth of descendants but reduces evolutionary success

ScienceDaily (Aug. 28, 2012) ? Scientists have taken a step closer to solving one of life's mysteries -- why family size generally falls as societies become richer.

Evolutionary biologists have long puzzled over this because natural selection is expected to have selected for organisms that try to maximise their reproduction. But in industrialised societies around the world, increasing wealth coincides with people deliberately limiting their family size -- the so-called 'demographic transition'.

In a study published in Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences, researchers from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, the Centre for Health Equity Studies (Stockholm University/Karolinska Institutet) and UCL (University College London) reject a popular theory put forward to explain the phenomenon. This 'adaptive' hypothesis proposes that low fertility may boost evolutionary success in the long term by increasing offspring wealth, which in turn eventually increases the number of long-term descendants because richer offspring end up having more children.

The researchers found that having a small number of children increased the economic success and social position of descendants across up to four generations, but reduced the total number of long-term descendants. They conclude that the decision to limit family size can be understood as a strategic choice to improve the socioeconomic success of children and grandchildren in modern societies, but this socioeconomic benefit does not necessarily translate into an evolutionary benefit.

The study indicates a conflict in modern societies between behaviours promoting social and economic benefits versus biological success. This contrasts with traditional populations in the developing world, where behaviours that promote wealth and social status usually lead individuals to leave behind more genetic descendants.

The researchers tested these hypotheses using data from the Uppsala Multigenerational Birth Cohort Study, which tracks 14,000 people born in Sweden in the early 1900s and all their descendants to the present day.

They measured the socioeconomic success of each generation by looking at their school marks, at whether they went to university and at their household income across adulthood. Reproductive success was assessed by survival to adulthood, marriage before age 40 (a proxy for 'mating success') and fertility (number of offspring up to 2009).

Among both male and female children in the original cohort, smaller family size and higher parental socioeconomic position were both associated with substantially higher school marks, university entrance and income. These effects were particularly large when low fertility and high socioeconomic status coincided, with the benefits of small family size being particularly marked in wealthier groups. Moreover, these advantages were in turn passed on to the grandchild and great-grandchild generations.

But contrary to the adaptive hypothesis, small family size and high parental wealth either did not affect reproductive success beyond the first generation of offspring or if anything showed a negative effect in subsequent generations.

Lead author Dr Anna Goodman, Research Fellow at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, said: "Under natural selection, you would expect organisms to use their resources to produce more genetic descendants, and so increase their Darwinian fitness. The demographic transition is a puzzle because at first sight it doesn't look like people are doing this. One adaptive explanation for the puzzle is that there exists a quantity-quality trade-off, such that having more children leads to those children being less able to reproduce in turn -- i.e. higher 'quantity' leads to lower biological 'quality'. However our study found this quantity-quality trade off only applied to descendants' socioeconomic success, not their reproductive success."

Co-author Dr David Lawson, from the Department of Anthropology at UCL, said: "One of our most interesting findings is that being from an initially wealthy household makes the benefits of small family size even bigger. Poorer households in contrast have relatively little to gain by limiting fertility, perhaps because the success of their children is more determined by broader societal factors, rather than investment and inheritance from parents, which is in short supply. This observation suggests a certain economic rationality to fertility patterns in the modern world, since fertility rates often drop first and most substantially in the wealthier sections of society when populations undergo demographic transition."

Professor Ilona Koupil, from the Centre for Health Equity Studies (Stockholm University/Karolinska Institutet) said: "It is important to note the equity implications of these findings. First, this research indicates that differences in family size may have lasting consequences on social inequalities. Second, this research provides evidence for the fact that people's educational levels and wealth not only affect schoolmarks and income in their children but also in their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. From a broader social policy perspective, our findings show that even in a country like Sweden with relatively low levels of inequality, we need policies that seek to equalise children's opportunities across families."

8 hurt when car crashes into crowd near LA school

(AP) ? A car plowed into a group of parents and children outside a South Los Angeles elementary school Wednesday afternoon, and eight people were hurt, six of them seriously, firefighters said.

At least some of the people injured outside Main Street Elementary were children, though it was not immediately clear how many, city fire spokesman Erik Scott said.

The crash occurred at about 2:30 p.m., just after school had let out for the day.

The school is about five miles southwest of downtown Los Angeles.

Scott said it was unclear whether the driver is among the injured, under arrest, or being sought.

Helicopter footage from NBC4 showed a child in a pink T-shirt being loaded into an ambulance and a Hello Kitty backpack lying in the street nearby. The footage showed a silver sedan on a sidewalk and a black car on the street next to it, both draped in police tape.

ON RIVAL TURF

Even in Tampa this week, President Barack Obama commands the stage ? at least with fellow Democrats.

A handful of party heavyweights gathered at the Democrat's "war room" down the street from where Republicans are holding their national convention.

Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Obama for America senior adviser Robert Gibbs were gearing up to criticize Republican challenger Mitt Romney's policies when an organizer announced: "The president is about to speak on television, so we'll start after that."

Obama spoke for a few minutes about emergency response preparations to Hurricane Isaac, not politics, but when the speakers followed, each mentioned the hurricane before tearing into Romney.

Investor, Opportunist, Entertainer An Interview with Russell Hantz ...

?

(TheNicheReport) ? Editors Note: Real Estate is made up of all kinds of people.? Those who are licensed real estate and mortgage professionals make up the institutional ?players? in the business, while others are investors looking to take advantage of cheap credit, depressed home values and the ability to turn properties for a profit (sound familiar?).? These types of opportunities attract a lot of investors who have some money to put into real estate.? Quite frankly the market today owes itself to this segment of buyer.? Due to tightened credit-qualifying criteria, so few consumers can qualify for a mortgage that the main buyers today are individuals or a group of investors, or foreign buyers and other consumers buying homes for second properties, retirement purposes or for family members.? Approximately 30% of all purchases in today?s market are all-cash transactions ? these are the buyers we love to hate and need to have.? So, in many respects, we are seeing more and more people like Russell Hantz, who may not have won $1,000,000 as the villain of the hit TV show, Survivor, but has applied his cutthroat approach to business in real estate on the new A&E reality show, Flipped Off.? It is for this that he is known as an investor, opportunist and probably one of the more colorful real estate players visible in today?s market.????

Hantz is the star of Flipped Off, a reality show focused on the ups, downs and drama of the real estate business.? In the end, it is clear that that there is little glamour in real estate and more sweat equity than anything else. The show reflects the trials of real estate on his family, his relationship with his kids, dealing with contractors, stolen inventory ? everything that reflects the many hurdles real estate professionals are confronted with every day as they attempt to buy and sell properties in today?s real estate market.?

Hantz stages this show in one of the hardest-hit markets in the United States, Houston, Texas.? ?There are tons of reality TV stars sitting on their couches and twiddling their thumbs because they haven?t created anything else,? Hantz says. ?I expect to be one of the biggest house flippers in Houston and I am here to bring Houston?s economy back on its feet.? Ever since the subprime mortgage crisis, flipping homes has been more difficult, since the demand for homes remains very high but qualifying consumers to purchase homes is the main obstacle.? Therefore, unless borrowers are interested in renting and investors are in it for the long haul, flipping isn?t for everyone.? Hantz?s life as a real estate investor is outrageous, genuine and entrepreneurial and fits into the broader market trends that are seen in today?s market.

?

Tell us about yourself. Where did you grow up?

Russell Hantz ? I grew up in Vinton, Louisiana. My father prepared me before I ever worked outside the family.? He had me do all of his entrepreneur ventures, shrimping, oystering, working in his sawmill, and much more.

?

Most people know you from Survivor.? How did you get on the show?

Russell Hantz?-?By sending my video in just for fun, not thinking I would make it, and got a call two years later.

?

Why real estate?? Why this time, and why this project coming off Survivor and Heroes vs. Villains?

Russell Hantz?-?First, my playing on Survivor had nothing to do with getting into real estate. Second, the man I respect the most is Mr. Trump and he?s in real estate. I figure, if he can do it I can do it.

?

Did you have a history in real estate?? And what attracted you to Houston for this next project?

Russell Hantz?-?I have no history in real estate, and what attracted me to Houston is that it?s the fourth biggest city in the U.S. and still growing.

?

What do you think has made you stand out in reality TV as compared to the thousands of other ?reality? TV personalities that no one ever remembers?

Russell Hantz?-?Good question. I am truly driven for success whether it is reality TV or not. Most people just want to be famous; all I want to do is win, and succeed. I think that separates me from the rest.

?

Are you really that rough around the edges or is this part of your TV persona?? What makes you tough?

Russell Hantz?-?My father made me tough, but to be successful you have to be aggressive, focused, and driven. Sometimes it takes a little hollering to get that done.

?

You are working with your brother Shawn, ? while many siblings could never work together, how do you make it work?? Do you guys fight?

Russell Hantz?-?We do fight, but I believe in Shawn and that?s why I gave him this opportunity [working on their current reality TV show Flipped Off], not because he?s my brother but because I believe in him.

?

You seem to have a kinder or softer side when it comes to your kids ? how does your home life mix in with your reality TV ventures?

Russell Hantz?-?That?s easy; my hat comes off when I come home. I do not let the two, reality shows and home life, intertwine with each other.

?

Your current TV show (Flipped Off) is pretty open with your issues in your marriage ? how can you bare all for the cameras?? Does this add to or alleviate the stress on family or marriage?

Russell Hantz?-?Reality TV always adds stress to a marriage. You have to be strong enough to overcome it.

?

Survivor was the launch of your career ? do you see it this way?? Who benefited more ? you from the show, or the show from you?

Russell Hantz?-?The show benefitted way more by having me, obviously. They already had my nephew Brandon Hantz and my brother Willie Hantz on Big Brother (also on CBS). So you tell me, who benefitted more, me or CBS?

?

Define Success in how you view it?

Russell Hantz?-?I truly think that success is happiness. Many view it with dollar signs, but it?s not so bad to be rich and famous.

?

What kind of negotiator are you??

Russell Hantz?-?I am an aggressive negotiator when I have to be, also a submissive negotiator when I have to be. I am everything I have to be at that point to make the deal happen.

?

How do you negotiate? ? lay out your key principles to keep in mind when negotiating.???

Russell Hantz?-?First, it depends on who I?m dealing with. But my key principle would be to make that person extremely comfortable and excited about what they?re about to buy.

?

What are the five things you look for in flipping a property? ?

? Russell Hantz?-?(1) Big city, because there?s no property to buy outside worth the risk.

? ? ? (2) Comps on the neighborhood you are about to buy from within.

? ? ? (3) How much it would take to flip the house and make a solid profit.

? ? ? (4) Getting it off the books.? Make sure you can do it in a timely manner.

? ? ? (5) Making sure you have the best Realtor around to sell it.

?

You are an oil tycoon?? So what can we do to lower the price of our gas in the U.S.?!

Russell Hantz?-?Stop driving, I guess.? I can?t help you there. Oil will always go up, and will forever go up, sorry, but it?s true.

?

What is the key to success for Realtors, as they ?survive? and thrive in today?s market?? Are there principles of success applicable from your show that could be applied to private business?

Russell Hantz?-?I think the ones that succeed in real estate these days are few and far between. If you?re trying to get in this business and you?re a newbie, I would suggest talking to a professional, because it is easy to lose money. It?s not as easy as I make it look.

?

How many siblings do you have?? Being the ?younger? brother to Shawn, does he ever try to pull older brother tricks or put you in your place?

Russell Hantz?-?I have two sisters and three brothers, my brother Shawn being the oldest. Shawn knows his place, so he never puts me in my place. I am the boss.

?

Your Mom was in the first episode (of Flipped Off) ? what role has your Mom played in your life and what influence has she had in your ?survivor? skills?

Russell Hantz?-?My mother and my mother?s father had a huge influence in my life. To be driven and happy. My mother had nothing to do with my lying, cheating, and stealing in a game to win a million dollars on Survivor.

?

So who is the real Russell ? the one from Survivor or the show Flipped Off??? You were so polarizing in Survivor ? people either loved you or hated you.? Is Flipped Off a way for people to see the real you?

Russell Hantz?-?You?ll never know the real Russell. I?m aggressive, I?m happy, I?m sad, I?m lonely. I?m everything that a person is expected to be, I am me.

?

Do you still watch Survivor?

Russell Hantz?-?No, I do not.

?

Why not?

Russell Hantz?-?It makes me sick to my stomach when I see a deserving winner lose, and unfortunately the reason that happens is because of weak, bitter people. The game has a serious flaw.

?

Do you have more future real estate projects in mind?

Russell Hantz?-?I have three houses as we speak, and you?ll see much more from me.

?

How did you choose your real estate agent, Kristen?

Russell Hantz?-?I did my research, found the top three realtors in Houston and interviewed them all. If you?ve seen Kristen, it was easy to see who the best pick was.? Pretty people sell.

?

How do you deal with sellers who simply aren?t realistic about the value of their property?? Tough love, or do you work with them, show them it won?t sell at that price and then hope they?ll listen to you on round two?

Russell Hantz?-?Right now, I deal in Houston. The city of Houston is too big to deal with people who are ignorant and wait for that person who needs the money. And trust me, cash is always king.

?

Do you support any charities?

Russell Hantz?-?My main charity is ?Give Kids the World.? It?s kind of like a sister company to ?Make a Wish Foundation,? but it means a lot to me, and no matter what, I will always be there for the kids. I may pause on saving the animals, but I will always make sure I spend my time saving the children.

?

What are your passions or hobbies, outside of Survivor or your current reality TV show?

Russell Hantz?-?I like to fight so I?m training for MMA (Mixed Martial Arts), so besides business, that consumes my time.

?

Excellent, Russell, thank you for your time.? You?ve been great and I hope our readers take into account what you?ve said. I?ve always said, confidence is everything, and this is something you definitely have!
