RUMOR: Apple Won't Release A Retina iPad Mini Until Next Year (AAPL)

    ?

There's a new rumor from Taiwan's Economic Daily, via MacRumors, that Apple has pushed back release of the iPad Mini with a sharper, Retina display until the start of 2014.

Reports about the iPad Mini with a Retina display have been all over the place. Some outlets said it was coming at the end of this year, some said it wasn't coming until next year.

Economic Daily is saying Apple is having trouble getting enough Retina panels to release the upgraded iPad Mini this year.

We don't what to make of this report.

It wouldn't shock us if there was no Retina iPad Mini this year, but we think it would be a mistake. Apple's rivals in the tablet space ? Samsung, Google, and Amazon ? are all producing small, low-cost, high resolution tablets. Those tablets will only get better later this year.

If Apple goes into the holiday season with the same iPad Mini as it had last year, its sales are probably going to take a hit.

It's still early though, so we wouldn't make any plans one way or another just yet.

Nikki Pierce: Summer Wedding Dos and Don'ts

At this point in the summer, you've probably already attended more than your desired share of weddings: which is one.

Unfortunately, weddings per season usually add up to somewhere between 6-8, and I wind up dropping somewhere between $300-$500 on gifts, $120-200 in cabs going home, and umpteen early morning hours of my life I'll never get back deleting embarrassing Facebook pictures I'm tagged in doing the "Put a Ring On It" moves.

I've already attended four this summer and, like an idiot, have "Will Happily Attend"-ed four more. If you're like me, you can benefit greatly from this list of "Wedding I-Do's" and "Wedding Don't-You-Dares, You Moron."

DO wear your previously-worn fancy attire. Throw a cardigan over it. Wear that s&!t inside out. Rock anything confidently, and it's a brave fashion choice. You're already spending major cash on gifts they'll get doubles of and probably return.

DON'T cry off your mascara at the dinner table during the reception. Use ceremony time to appropriately get all your "Poor, pitiful me! I'm still single and always will be, and my mom won't shut up about grandkids, and when did I start sobbing?" tears out. That's what it's there for.

DO also use ceremony time to pick out your ONE acceptable hook-up. If you've seen one ceremony, you've seen them all. (If you've never been to a wedding, SPOILER ALERT: Love does not envy or boast.) Use this time to find someONE cute, and take a sober, mental note: You are not allowed to make out with anyone else on the dance floor during "Careless Whisper."

Actually, DO NOT make out with ANYONE on the dance floor during "Careless Whisper." Thanks, Vine and and all my a-hole friends who think it's funny to watch me embarrass myself in my most incriminating 6 seconds. Until the after party at The Hangge-Uppe.

If you do make out with someone you just met on the dance floor, DO own it by winking at any camera you see, because hey, you still got it. Who else do you know that can get someone they just met to find the Chicken Dance sexy?

DO NOT talk about how much cooler Carrie's wedding was than this one. Carrie always has the best s&!t, and everyone knows it. Even the bride's grandmother knows it, and you don't need to be telling her right now.

DON'T YOU DARE grab the groom's ass during the dollar dance or put a note reading, "This could've been us" inside. So what you dated in college and he said he'd love you forever and now he actually means it with this beautiful downtown executive something or other? That sort of action, even if you're totally joking, isn't funny. It's tacky. And classless. Let's face it, that was just dumb... why did I do that?!

DO leave without telling anyone goodbye. I do this everywhere, not just at weddings. It saves everyone from an embarrassing "It was so good to see you, whatever-your-name-is," and no one will ever know just how much of that free pink wine you've consumed.

DO be happy. As much as we single sad sacks want to believe that weddings are a constant reminder that we still haven't found another bed-ridden Internet troll to share our lives with, in reality, it's a celebration of two people -- most likely one of whom has spent no less than 200 hours on TheKnot.com -- who have decided to spend the rest of their lives together.

They thought of you as someone they wanted to share that one special day with.

Be strong. Good luck. Don't eff this up.

Spitzer submits signatures to get on NYC ballot

NEW YORK (AP) ? Eliot Spitzer has met the deadline to file thousands of petition signatures for his bid to revive his political career by running for New York City comptroller.

Spitzer said that "over 27,000 signatures" were submitted to the city Board of Elections just after 10:30 p.m. Thursday, ahead of a midnight deadline. It came just four days after the tarnished ex-governor launched his campaign.

Spitzer needs 3,750 valid petition signatures to get on the Democratic primary ballot for September.

"I just want to first and foremost thank the citizens of New York that signed these petitions," Spitzer said outside the Board of Elections office in lower Manhattan. "I want to say it's an important statement for those who said it was not possible in the course of three and a half days to gather these signatures to get a candidate on the ballot for citywide office."

The filing may not be the last word. Spitzer's opponents or others could challenge signatures for reasons such as incomplete addresses or missing dates.

If that happens, elections officials will have to review the objections, hold a hearing late this month and decide whether the signatures qualify. The matter could ultimately go to court.

Spitzer, who resigned amid a prostitution scandal in 2008, startled the political establishment and shook up what had been a tame comptroller's race by jumping into it, a decision he says he just made over the weekend.

Candidates were allowed to start petitioning in early June, and many did. Campaigns generally gather two to three times as many signatures as needed, in case some are challenged as having incomplete addresses, missing dates or other flaws.

Spitzer had said he was aiming for 7,500 signatures. His self-financed campaign has offered canvassers $12 an hour to collect them; consulting firm BrownMillerGroup said a report that petitioners were getting $800 a day was inaccurate.

Stringer, meanwhile, noted that he relied on volunteer petitioners.

"One hundred thousand people signed my petition, and we didn't have to pay anybody," he said Thursday evening on TV news station NY 1's "Road to City Hall."

Spitzer and Stringer each need signers who are registered Democrats, live in the city and haven't signed another comptroller hopeful's petition. Signers must supply their names and addresses and date the forms, and signature-gatherers also have to fill out certain information.

Spitzer's four-day timeframe was certainly a challenge, political veterans said.

"It's not a lot of time. It can be done," said Martin Connor, an election lawyer and former state senator.

Meanwhile, Spitzer got encouraging news Wednesday from a poll showing he topped Stringer 42 percent to 33 percent among registered Democrats, including those leaning toward but not settled on a candidate. The Wall Street Journal-NBC 4 New York-Marist questioned 546 registered Democrats and had a margin of error of plus or minus 4.2 percentage points for questions limited to them.

Spitzer said Wednesday night that while the poll numbers were comforting, he was aware he had more work to do.

"I'm never confident," he said. "And that is defensive politics."

Stringer campaign manager Sascha Owen expressed confidence that as more voters get to know Stringer, "he will be the obvious choice for comptroller."

Other comptroller contenders include Republican John Burnett, who has worked on Wall Street; his campaign said Thursday he'd filed about 8,000 signatures.

Petitions weren't yet due for some third-party contenders, but Libertarian Kristin Davis' campaign has collected 3,100 so far, spokesman Andrew Miller said. Adding an unusual element to the campaign, Davis is a former madam.

Green Party candidate and former teacher Julia Willebrand's campaign didn't immediately respond to a message sent through the campaign's Facebook page Thursday evening.

Pardee Homes' Green Designs Tip Scale For New Buyers At LivingSmart Homes Fair Oaks Ranch In Santa Clarita, California

LOS ANGELES, CA, July 11, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Location, design, price, neighborhood, community--Mark Barron and Amy Hizon found the complete new home package when they came to LivingSmart Homes at Fair Oaks Ranch in Santa Clarita. Yet when asked to identify "the one reason" they bought their new home here, they answered quickly: "Green."

"When we walked into the sales offices for the first time we did not understand the green part of the building, and we did not realize the level of achievement Pardee has accomplished with green building," said Mark. "As we were educated on this major aspect of the home, it became a major factor in our decision to purchase with Pardee.

"We are amazed at the energy--and cost--savings we are experiencing and the comfort level the house maintains," he added. "I have owned many homes and the homes Pardee builds are by far the best."

Mark and Amy are glad to tell others about their choice of new home with Pardee Homes. In fact, they just finished a video segment now on YouTube. You can see it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHztNT3XoBQ&feature=em-uploademail

The new home search began about a year ago for Mark and Amy as they made marriage and moving plans. In addition to creating one household, they each wanted something smaller, newer and easier to manage than the homes they were in at the time. "We each had a home of about 4,000 square feet, and downsizing was a priority," said Mark. "We were also feeling some urgency because we saw the market rising and thought the right time to buy had definitely come."

Finding the right home at the right price in the right place? That took awhile, as the couple searched widely through Simi Valley and the San Fernando Valley. Career professionals who both commute to Van Nuys, they initially skipped over the Santa Clarita area. "We did not think to come here because I had remembered traffic hassles," Mark said. That was before all the improvements were made to the 14 Freeway."

Yet re-sale and bank-owned choices in their initial search areas were not desirable. "Fixer uppers just were not what we wanted to take on," said Mark. "And with the bank-owned properties, understanding what our real costs were could be difficult."

Realizing that what they really wanted was a new home, Mark and Amy circled back to Santa Clarita, where they found Pardee Homes, LivingSmart Homes and Fair Oaks Ranch.

Priced from the mid $400,000s, LivingSmart Homes offer approximately 1,846 to 2,432 square feet of living space. Mark and Amy liked the Plan 3 layout, its generous bed and bath count and all the features and finishes that were included with their move-in ready selection.

Pleased with the design and energy-savings of the home, Mark and Amy then looked at their prospective neighborhood, helped by sales representatives Ben Romzek and Lexie Perez. "We practically lived at the model home while we were completing the purchase process," said Amy. "Ben and Lexie are really good, down to earth people who are working to help you, not sell you."

"They took us to the rec center pool, and we began making friends instantly, even before we bought our home," said Mark. "The people here were so welcoming and friendly, and it was obviously such a great community that we knew this was going to be our home."

The setting at Fair Oaks Ranch has been a definite plus. "The view from our home to the mountains is absolutely gorgeous," said Mark. "When we go to the store, there's a beautiful view. Everywhere you go there is something inspirational to look at and everything here is open and fresh."

Fair Oaks Ranch location has also made commuting easier for Mark and Amy, who work at the same consumer electronics firm, he as chief financial officer and she as the company's finance manager. "It takes us about 30 minutes to get to work, really not a problem with the 14 Freeway so close," said Amy.

Just as important was the help they got as they completed purchase. "The customer service team is amazing," said Amy. "They respond to you, and they care. They solve problems instead of talking about solving problems!"

In their new home for about six months, Mark and Amy are delighted. "Our neighbors are great people, we're enjoying the park and we're looking forward to summer at The Ranch," said Mark. "We made the right decision when we came to Pardee Homes and Fair Oaks Ranch!"

And oh yes, back to green. "We just got our last SCE bill and it was for $9.14," said Mark. "On a recent 47-degree morning, in our cozy Pardee home the temperature was 71 degrees without the heater or air conditioner. I cannot emphasize enough how much we love saving money with our GREEN Pardee home!"

Pardee Homes helped Mark and Amy celebrate their choice of a new, green-built home by supplying particulars of just what the green features add up to for these new homeowners at LivingSmart Homes. See this from Pardee Homes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ENrFkEk7J8&feature=em-uploademail

    GOP is fickle over immigration

The Tea Partyers now want to extend the existing horrendous steel curtain wall on our southern border by another 700 feet to keep out the influx of immigrants entering our country illegally.

The Republicans do not mention any other immigrants who enter our country illegally via the Canadian border or by way of the Pacific or Atlantic oceans. Why are they welcomed with open arms? Especially when some of those people turn out to be terrorists and inflict more harm to our country than those people entering from our southern border.

Some conservatives apparently also want to check the IQ of all immigrants and also test their aptitude, obviously to pick the cream of the crop from other countries. They want our corporations to hire highly skilled workers from other countries, and still do all the outsourcing they want. I believe most Americans would not like to see that happen, but would prefer to educate our own people. What do Republicans do? Cut funding for education.

Are we going to have to reincarnate Ronald Reagan and let him call President Barack Obama: ?Mr. President tear down that wall??
